Fish Finders

Selecting a Fish Finder

All of the major fish finder brands have their pros and cons. The one thing we recommend you prioritize above all else when selecting a fish finder is what do you want it's capability to be?

  • Are you strictly using it for sonar and navigation?
  • Will you use it to control your trolling motor or other accessories?

Knowing the answers to these questions and looking ahead will help you purchase a fish finder that suits you today and in the future. Should you upgrade your trolling motor down the road, will the fish finder you purchased "play" nice with it?

Garmin Fish Finders

Garmin offers a range of fish finders that provide unparalleled clarity and precision. These devices integrate seamlessly into Garmin's ecosystem so you can do things such as control your Force Kraken trolling motor.

Newest to enter the marine electronics world compared to other big brands, what we really like about Garmin fish finders is that they are designed to be simple yet don't sacrifice any technology in doing so.

If you are someone who is looking for a new fish finder for your Walleye boat and don't want to deal with the learning curve of navigating through sonar menus, settings, and options then going with a Garmin fish finder might be a good fit for you.

The options for "tweaking" stuff are there- they just aren't in your face as much.

Lowrance Fish Finders

Lowrance has been in the fish finders game for over 60 years and offer the most flexibility as far as navigation and mapping. Companies such as Doctor Sonar, and Angler's Edge have been built almost exclusively on Lowrance's open architechture environment.

A good analogy for you "techy" folks would be to think of Lowrance as Android and the other guys as Apple.

Over the last few years, Lowrance has also introduced FishReveal into their fish finders. This technology makes it easy to distinguish fish on your sonar screen and is a great feature for anglers that have a tougher time with reading sonar.

For anglers that want the most versatility for mapping and easy sonar interpretation then Lowrance fish finders might be the way to go. Keep in mind though, all brands give the opportunity to create your own custom maps.

Humminbird Fish Finders

Humminbird fish finders are synonomous with high quality sonar imaging. Their ecosystem includes other major brands from Johnson Outdoors including Minn Kota trolling motors, Talon, Raptor, and more.

Utilizing the "one-boat network," Humminbird fish finder users can seamlessly integrate and communicate with a wide variety of fishing products including trolling motors, downriggers, shallow water anchors, and more.
